This weekend, I looked at an old percussion muzzleloader my aunt has......here late husband found it in the attic of his parents home and I would like to identify it for her.

The only markings are on the lock and they consist of a small crown with the letters JH under the crown; and the following:

FJMALHERBE & CU
A Liege

The bore is very large and is rifled........I have photos, but the film has not yet been processed....

I'd appreciate any help you could give!

Could the first letter be a P as opposed to F? Only thing I found with a quick search was a reference to a .704" Brunswick rifle by P. Malherbe of Liege.

Good luck

It could be a "P" instead of an F......The rifle is a couple hours away from me, so I can't check for sure...

It is difficult to tell much from the photo at the link, but I do know that the lock is different......
