Hey Folks,
I was on a quest for a Remington 30 to use as a base gun when I stumbled across this Remington 720 today.

I'm damn near thinking of cutting it up into a fine custom gun, but it seems these are getting a bit collectable.

Consider my gun, and let me know if you'd try to restore it, or if you'd break the action out and purdy it up.

The issues...
30-06
Nicely fit, but non-factory recoil pad.
Lyman rear, but unsure if it was factory installed.
Swing swivels.
Floorplate release button and rear sight missing (but the band is still on the barrel).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Here is an article that you may wish to read regarding the 720. I may have this wrong but a good number (1000 ?) of the 2400 model 720's were presented as trophies. I suppose it is possible that your's is one of those. If it were me, I would spare the cutting torch!

Yes, they were trophies. The US Navy purchased a huge number of them for awards to "All Navy" competition winners and such. They were all .30-06 and stored at Annapolis, MD, for years. I can remember looking at racks and racks of them in the old armory at the Severn River Naval Station back in the 1960s and 1970s. If you should find a 720, it is probably one of the US Navy trophy rifles.
