I came across a Model 61 that piqued my interest in that it was in 98% condition. After looking at it further I noticed upgraded wood and an action that worked very tight and solid. There was also very little signs of wear on the slide.

I decided not to buy the gun because I assumed it was re stocked and re blued. It was so nice I continue to wonder if there were any documented custom shop M61's??

Any help would be appreciated.

So, since you've decided it isn't a good collector's piece you won't share it's location with those of us looking for a good shooter?

I was recently priveleged to handle a M61 in 99% except for the Lyman receiver sight. Wow! So much nicer than you'd think. Sometimes, nicer than average wood sneaks through AND the finish would make you think it had to be reblued. But they aren't.

I'm unaware of custom shop examples. But then I'm a fan not an expert.

I'm still thinking about this one. I may go back to see it again.

I'll let you know the location if I decide not to buy.

I feel duty bound to let you in on a little secret...

Every time I think, somebody else gets "my" place! I've lost more good deals because I stopped to consider than for any other reason.

If it was a .22 WRFM and you didn't buy it, well, you'd have to be nuts!
