I visited a friend and collector yesterday and had a great afternoon. He proved to me that there were other things than single barreled 16 g Iver Johnsons brought to this country by returning immigrants; a couple of Parkers and this perfect deer rifle: We looked over some old catalogues but according to these it should have been offered only in 30-06. 30-S Express is marked on the reciever, although it is chambered for the 25 Rem. The rifle is in perfect condition. Should I keep my hands off the rifle and leave it in its original condition? It could be made into anything.. It was purchased in NYC back in 1937 as I recall him telling me. Boha [ 10-31-2003, 12:47: Message edited by: boha ]

hello, you are just teasing us? no, that is really a scarce caliber. i would leave it alone. or sell it to me. i think most hunters considered the 25 remington as marginal for hunting; and the 9 pound rifle was much too heavy for this lower powered cartridge. nice photo.

Well it's not worth anything in Finland, OK maybe 100 Euros. I'll be in Pori in December and can pick it up so it won't be taking up room. Definately one not to mess around with though, use it as is or just admire it.

Thanks, good people, I really didnt have a clue. It will stay in its original state. The owner has shot a goose or two with it. The rifle is in perfect condition, and I am very pleased to tell my friend that it is a special one. Oh and Pori is about 125 km from the rifle in question. we will be busy hunting our finnish whitetail in december.. Boha [ 11-01-2003, 22:31: Message edited by: boha ]
