Looking to see if anyone know approximate value of a 1963 Winchester M70 30/06. Has a red field period correct 4 power, 22" barrel shows use some worn bluing smooth action dings on stock etc. is advertised at $700. Seems like a fair price but unsure? It is a pre 64 model 70 with cool made in USA scope. Ideas? Thanks White Mountains Arizona

If the barrel is uncut and 22 inches, it's a Featherweight. Featherweight actions with aluminum bottom metal don't sell for as much as Standard actions with steel parts. And the 1963 M70s (last year of production) sometimes had problems the earlier rifles lacked. Does it have a recoil pad? If so, it's not original and check the length of pull--less than 13.5 inches is a serious problem. All in all, this rifle with worn bluing, stock dings and very late production is a shooter, not a collector. Assuming it has no problems affecting functioning and accuracy, it's still a good value at $700.

Any decent pre 64 is worth $700..I will take issue on fwt. vs. std. wt. guns..The fwt mod. 70 pre 64s definatly bring a $100 to $200 higher premium price, depending on the caliber. Check the internet gun selling blogs or the monthly rags. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
