I have a pre-64 action and stock. and access to both a 30-06 and a 264 mag. barrel. I want to assemble and probably sell or trade. But, I dunno which barrel-once added, would make the better/desirable gun. Any advice????? Thanks. Alex

The 30-06 uses a standard action and standard bolt face. The 264 requires a short magnum action and a magnum bolt face. Take a cartridge and see which bolt face you have and if it is indeed a magnum, you will need to determine if your receiver is a Standard, a Short Magnum (264, 300, 338, 458) or an H&H length magnum. Also there are a lot of little details between years. PA Bear Hunter, NRA Benefactor

depending on how much you want to spend putting it all together, it's worth more in pieces.... go big or go home ........ DSC-- Life Member NRA--Life member DRSS--9.3x74 r Chapuis

Con, turn the action over and look at the number on the integral recoil lug. IIRC, it should have the original caliber stamped there. All pre-64's are one length, from 22 Hornet to 375 H&H. They just cut the bolt stop different lengths and do the bolt face and magazine box to match each chambering. A '06 action in clean condition is a $600-$750 piece. The 264 barrel is worth at least half that, the '06 $200-250. Stock, if uncut; $250-$500+ depends on wood. This is my opinion, based on what I have seen for sale VS what actually sold. Rich
