45ottoI know they are. It belongs to a friend. He found it inside a plaster wall i9n a farm house he recently bought. The larger pics don't really show proof marks. It is a smooth bore. my dial caliper measures 20mm inside muzzle diameter. I think it's about a 12 ga. The hammer style is what has me baffled. The stock has been shortenend on the forearm end. Obvious saw marks. I am wondering if it was converted from a flintlock at some point but I have no way of knowing that.

L. David KeithIn the South, during the ACW, Southern people would hide guns from raiding union thieves as the Fed's were brutal to anyone, even women. Common misconceptions were, these guns would make their way to the CS army but not hardly. They were hidden in hopes one day when troops weren't around they could try and hunt for food as the Fed's stole all livestock, grain, flour and anything else, including women's dresses (sent to officers wives). Many of these old smoothbores were used later as shotguns.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
