Guys,
I need a good pic of a Ross rifle for a manual I am writing. It should preferably be a rifle on a white or very pale background so the action is very visible.
I tried googling for a long time, and could only get a pic on a green baize which I cannot use.
Can anyone help please?

thanks,

this is a commercial ross that was rebarrelled in 30-40 krag. it shoots well. i also have a very tired looking sporterized military model. i am bad a taking photos. maybe i will get my step daughter to help with her expensive camera later in the week. is there any thing in particular that you are looking for in the action as far as a photo? want a picture of the bolt? just let me know.

Hi 390,
A pic of the rifle with a clear view of the action would be great. the chapter i need this for is on various types of rifle actions that are /were available. If I cannot get a decent pic I might have to leave the straight pull rifle section out, which I really don't want to do.

thanks,
J

There is an excellent book on Ross Rifles, written by R. Phillips, F. Dupuis, and J. Chadwick, titled "The Ross Rifle Story", 475 8-1/2 x 11-1/2 pages, 1984. There are multitudes of pictures, line-drawings, patent sketches, etc., in that book. If nothing else will serve your purpose, I'd try a letter to one or more of the authors asking them for any pictures they might be willing to send you. I used to know Roger Phillips rather well, and he is a very generous man who would love to see more known to the "masses" of modern shooters about the Ross.

Roger used to be listed in the phone book of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. J.A. Chadwick used to live at RR#6, Sidney, Nova Scotia, Canada, B1P 6T2.

A little research at your local library will likely find a copy of the book for you to peruse. Des Archives de la Ville de Quebec also has extensive material on the Ross. A letter to them might also yield help in your quest.
