I know that a lot of people like their certain types that work best for them, but what I want to know is how a remington 700 fares with some of the other types of guns out there. I personally like cooper firearms but I just want to know more about these guns in case I buy one in the future.

In terms of a hunting rifle the Rem. 700 is an evolution of their 721/722. This rifle was designed in the 1940's as the cheapest to make CF rifle possible with the technology of that day.

I have owned both a 722 and a 700 and they functioned well enough but if you have any money at all there are better guns. Now for target shooting the 40X is an excellent rifle.

Keep in mind that they braze the front part of a Rem 700 bolt, where the locking lugs are, to the back part of the bolt body. Then they braze on the bolt handle with no pin, dovetail or other backup for its attachment.

Even worse, in my opinion, is that the safety on a 700 just locks the trigger. It fails to lock the firing pin like the M70 and other rifles do. Not only that but now the 700 safeties don't lock the bolt handle closed. There is more but thats enough for me to ignore them. Get something else. Its the 21 Century.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

thats exactly what I thought when I first handled one, I also don't like the trigger that they put on it. It took me a while to get it zero'd in, I finally gave up and got a new trigger/
