I am doing something similar, but a little more up scale. Or maybe I amjust buying stuff for me and using my grandson as an excuse. I think you should consider quality rifles, shotguns and pistols that will retain their value over time. Double bbl or o/u shotgun in 20 ga. Something in Win 23, Beretta Silver Hawk or Browning superposed. I have a friend who is 70 something yrs old. His dad gave him a Fox Sterlingworth and he shot it up until a few yrs ago. It is still a nice looking gun and will retain its value. Whatever you do, I am sure you are enjoying it.

This may not be the correct place to post this but I am curious as to what each of you plan for your child or grandchild. My oldest grandson just turned five and I'm working on a collection for him to shoot as soon as he is old enough to do so. To date, we have a Browning 16 GA three-shot that my father bought in the very early '30s, a Ruger 10-22 and a Ruger Mod 77 in 7x57. Still working on getting a second shotgun, probably will end up being a 20 ga Remington 870. Just not sure which one to buy. Anone else working on a collection and if so, what???
