BuddyK-9Colt SAA 45LC
What is the difference between a standard 3rd generation frame and a 3rd generation black powder frame? Any collector value over standard frame? Still shoot modern 45LC ammo or must you use the light cowboy loads only?
Thanks

congomikeIn 3rd gen guns the only difference is asthetics. BP frame has screw going into the front of the frame to hold the base pin in and on the smokeless frame, it is a spring loaded cross pin. There is absolutely no strength difference between the two when talking 3rd gen guns. I personally like the looks of the BP frame, but I like the ease of use of the smokeless frame. If you ever anticipate removing the cylinder on a BP framed gun, make sure you have a proper fitting screwdriver with you. As for value, I think there were probably less BP frames made, but don't see them selling for any more than standard frames.

BuddyK-9Thanks for the explanation. I have seen the difference but didn't know the details.

Idaho SharpshooterBP has the original "Bullseye" ejector button, VS "Crescent" for the smokeless.
