Is there a trusted online source for used gun values. I would use it to double check values for some guns that I have been entrusted with in order to sell them for a close friends widow.

Thanks

Dulcinea,

I will take a crack at offering a suggestion regarding your post.

There are two major gun internet auction sights I know of on the web. You can view without registering, and by searching auctions ended in the past 90 days, using keywords from the firearms you are in need of information for, may be able to see actual prices paid for those firearms and often a picture with a discription of condition. gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com are the two auction sights that you may look at to get an idea. The blue book of gun values also has good information, but interest/popularity, originality, and conditon have an affect for more or less $ than shown at times. Also the Gunlist and Shotgun News are good written sources put out bi-weekly that could help also.
I think you are wise to try and establish some values before actually selling.
Best of luck in your endeavor.

30WCF gives some excellent advice, and you are to be commended for wanting to do the best possible for a widow.

Don't assume that asking prices, either in classifieds or on the web, are representative of SELLING prices. The selling prices from the last 90 days are a much truer indication of the realistic market for a given model and condition of gun. Condition is very important; a good solid shooter with banged up stock and worn blue may be every bit as valuable as a new gun in terms of shooting, but certainly won't command the price of a mint specimen.

Also, the time of the year has some bit of effect on gun prices. Rifles and shotguns are slow this time of year, and get hotter as September approaches. Handguns are in fairly stong demand year-round, but in the hunting "off season" may be some bit more liquid than when people are putting much of their money into hunting guns. In general, if given the opportunity, market handguns in the first half of the year, shotguns in the third quarter, and rifles in the last quarter.

There are also regional differences, both in timing and gun preferences, but they are too complicated to go into here.
