Since switching to expandables several years ago, I've really come to love their devastating performance on game. I've taken quite a few deer w/ Game Tracker's line of expandables (First Cut and Silver Tip) but, I 've occasionally tried others. A few weeks ago I picked up some Wasp SST 100 expandables and decided to use them on my late season hunts. I had a few doubts on penetration because of the huge cutting diameter of these heads (1-3/4") but, their razor sharp blades gave me confidence.

Now, to the good part. I shot a small bodied buck (130-140#) the Saturday before last and the performance of this broadhead really amazed me. The shot was at 30 yards, arrow was a 29.5" PSE Carbon Force Extreme being launched at a chronoed 275fps. The arrow entered mid-body about 6" behind the shoulder on a slight quarter and penetrated ribs, lungs, diaphram, liver, just knicked the stomach( Mad), and exited through those tiny last ribs. The arrow was 3/8s barried in the dirt and took a reasonable tug to remove. Now to the Blood, it looked like he had been shot w/ a magnum rifle. There was literally a 2 foot spray of blood droplets around the arrow. The buck only made it about 40 yards from impact. Not the best placement but, you can't argue w/ a 40 yard trail from a hit like that.

I know this is just one example for this head but, believe me, based on this one there will be many more to come. I have always loved the quick short death the Expandables provide. If any of you were looking for some pretty good expandables, you might want to look at the Wasp SSTs.

Good Luck!

The Wasp Co. is in CT. I have stopped in there and found that they buy high carbon strip. It's another niche outfit.
