Hi folks

I've purchased a second hand Browning Summit II and know very little about it. Also it is very difficult to find anything out about it here in the UK so any information that might give me a clue to its pedigree would be great. Does anyone on here own or shoot one, are they a good bow? it seems to shoot true enough

Browning makes a reasonably good bow. I shot one for years before I upgraded to PSE, then Hoyt, and finally have been very happy with my Forge bows.

As long as it shoots well for you and you can get decent groups, you're good to go.

As it seems to be a reasonably old bow, where would I find spares e.g. steel cable and strings, cams etc ?

I don't have anyone in the UK that will supply steel cables so any decent contacts you guys know of in the states

The first thing I would do is take it to a qualified archery pro shop and have it inspected. The one problem I had with Browning Bows (I owned three in my life) is one of them, the upper limb snapped while at full draw. When it let go, it whacked me in the noggin, dropping me to my knees! The cut required three stitches to close and I bled like a stuck hog all the way out of the league range to the hospital.

Any good proshop should be able to get you strings and cables. If it gets to the point where you need new cams, my suggestion would be to get a new bow.

You could always try emailing Browning directly via their website for additional information and parts availability.

I wouldn't stick a whole lot of money into it. If it starts making creaking sounds, don't do like I did and continue shooting it! Creaking, in a bow is not a good sound. If it does start making "bad sounds", consider replacing it rather than repairing it.

Many thanks for the advice. I did go to one pro shop but he was not prepared to look at or work on the bow as he had not supplied it, so was unsure what to make of it!
