I'm considering buying a new bow and the guy at the store whow measured me said I had a 26.5 inch draw without a release I've been shooting dad's bow with a release and would like to do so with my own eventually. How much does a release knock off your draw length. Thanks in advance for any ehlp.

Most folks can shoot a bow with a release that's a little too short MUCH better than one that's a little too long.

Some releases cut off more draw than others.

Get the release you're going use first and get measured with that Wink

Don't guess, or take someones "word" for it.

it will also depend on the release. if you want a longer draw length, get a release with a trigger all the way to the top of the release and straight, instead of curved, being back a bit. this will put your hand closer to the string, and gain 1/2" or so of draw length.

Your draw length is what it is.
From the pocket of your bow hand to where the nock is lined up with the corner of your eye.
The release length will change your anchor point.
A string loop can change your anchor to where you are comfortable and can REPEAT it every time.

I think it will be different for most. A release doesn't bother my draw with or without it, loop or no loop, etc.

Best way is to find your prefered release and be measured with it.

I agree with Reloader. The only thing that changes for me is the anchor point.
Gee you have a short draw! You must be a small guy!
