Hunting in urban northern virginia, on ft belvoir army base.

bowtech destroyer 340
easton a/c/c pro hunter
100gr titanium atom broadheads

this is a heavy hunted piece of basically public land. this guy was easing down a sand ditch at the bottom of a very big and very steep ravine. not a giant deer by any means, but when you get 14 yards and broadside, it spells trouble. this is my 6th archery deer, 4th buck. he is 16" inside, and dropped within sight of my treestand less than 50 yards away. then it took me half an hour to drag him up a 60 foot and very steep ravine... with the aid of my deer cart. 2 pulled back muscles later, he was in the truck. need a couple more this year to fill the freezer, hopefully i can find his grandpa or a couple of sisters running around.

Great job, Coop!

I thought you had to draw a slot to hunt on Belvoir? (Hadn't looked at it in years.)

I settled for a cow elk this year, as I saw zero bulls.

Hope the back is not serious. Be careful with that, it's gotta last a lifetime.

Thanks Don,
Belvoir is pretty easy to hunt on (it helps that i also work on base) but there are several steps that one must go through. its kind of a pain with signing out areas, and there are limited spots per area, so if its crowded, you may not get to hunt, or may not get to hunt any lockons you may have out if the area is full. but there are some pretty good deer running around. my 8pt last year tickled p&y but didn't quite make it.

i haven't seen any bigger bucks while hunting this year yet, but they are out there. i just need to meet up with one. the back is getting better, was able to work out again this week, although limited. shot the deer 7oct.

i rifle hunted colorado last year with a friend of mine down near durango. drew a 3rd season mulie tag, and got a bull elk tag as well. never saw a single bull, but did get a nice mulie on the 8th day of the season. really wish i had gotten an elk, its my favorite game meat so far. i'd love to fill my freezer with another one

Good news on the back.

Elk has it all over a mulie - especially if the mulie has been browsing sage or evergreens.

My 1.5 year old cow isn't very impressive in a photo, but she sure eats like a dream. Smiler
