I'm new to bow-hunting and never shot one before...

I have the opportunity to own one in a classified ad...

Mattthews FX2...

Is it a good rig for hunting deer and hogs?

Looking for something I can learn on!

Its brand new and only been shot less than 50x and loaded with accessories...with 29" and 60 lb. draw weight.... I have a 29" draw so everything looks good to go...

Thanks!

It depends on the price as there are lots of good used bows out there right now for sale.
Would it be a good bow to start with? of course it would, and in all honesty might be all that you ever need.
There are lots of bows that will shoot faster, but if you never saw the ads or heard the tall tales of guys shooting super light arrows at warp speeds you would never know you lacked anything.
The Fx2 shoots about 308 IBO which is plenty fast enough.
My first compound was a Matthews Q2 that shoots 305 and I killed a ton of stuff with it.
The compound that I use now when I am not toting a longbow or recurve is a Hoyt VTEC and while yes it is a tad quieter, and looks a little cooler it does not kill things any deader or shoot a bit more accurately.
So if you can get it bought right, and set it up right, you will be able to whack anything that roams the island.
Speaking of which I will be on Oahu later this year and I always pack a bow along.
Perhaps we can meet up and go stick a pig, or maybe even take a side trip to Big Island to hunt some ranches over there that I am friends with.
I have many friends and places to hunt over there on Maui, Kauai and BI.

No doubt the bow will do the job. The price would be the deciding factor.

I have an FX that I took to Africa in 2004. It did the job quite well. Bought a newer, faster, "better" bow, but when I hunted caribou in NW territories and again in Africa in 2007, it was the old FX that got the nod. The new bow was a backup. It's what fits you, feels right, and shoots the best for you. The FX does it for me.

Would point out that Bucko's estimate of 308 fps is probably at 70 lb. draw, rather than 60. but if you do your job, the bow definitely will, even at the lower weight, and you probably can crank it up. It's a really nice short lightweight bow if you're going to carry it up and down hills/mountains.
