For Don G's details request... Was about the 5th day of our bow season and the wind was finally correct for my favorite acorn ridge stand. He came in way too early and shook me up big time. That's a great feeling... so as he past me I caught him with what I jokingly call my apendic shot, and the 125 Thunderhead went on into his heart. I saw him crash in 40 yards, and gave him the requsite 30 seconds and was all over him! Dead as a doornail in less then 20 seconds, amazing! What I didn't like was the 22" of penetration from this angle and no exit. I was very very lucky that day. Thanks for asking. ![]() Dave ![]() Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! Dave, Thanks for the details. They can move deceptively fast, even when they just seem to be ghosting along. What type of arrow, broadhead, bow, draw length, draw weight? Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

Easton aluminum, Thunderhead 125 "diamonized", 28" draw, pulling about 62 lbs in my dotage. ![]() ![]() Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

I wish I had been pulling 62# last Thursday - I might have a nice buck instead of a bad memory! Did the arrow have to go through the rumen from the angle you shot at? (Was he quartering away with his left side to you or his right side?) If that rumen is full it can stop almost anything. In any case the broadhead/arrow did its job! Don, that is an interesting reply as he was quartering away right side to me, and the arrow entered midway between the last rib and the ham, basically the abdomanal wall. The arrow penetrated "only" 22" and raised hell with the heart lungs. Since it stayed in him as he ran he helped me out Big Time! Yes, I measured the fat line on the shaft. I was blessed that day with an inordinate amount of luck. Thanks again. Dave D ![]() Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! The rumen sits on the left side. The doe I shot a couple of weeks back had a rumen packed with nuts and nut hulls. I think it would have stopped anything. After seeing that rumen I would not try your same shot from the left side! Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

Don, that's another good point you make as I was more concerned about "raking the ribs." A shot which my brother in law taught us unintentionaly of course. 600 yards and very dark, we used a knife to finish the business. He got to hold the horns and ride the bull at the same time. Wish I had a video to show my nephews Daddy's worst moment. The initial blood trail had us thinking inside of 75 yards, but as we went on and on... It was late when he released, and we had dinner first and having inspected the initial blood trail, we went unprepared for unusual circumstances... ![]() Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now!
