My youngest son is 7 years old and loves to watch me and his big brother ( 13 years old) shoot our bows in the back yard. He always loves to get our arrows for us telling us to wait where we are. Then stands there handing us our arrows as we shoot. He never tires of fetching our arrows for us. Well yesterday I asked him to come run some errands with me, I brought him to a sporting goods store and bought him his own little recurve bow. You should have seen his smile! We went straight home to shoot. After he shot a few arrows....two of three right over the butress into the hay fields... I told him "Now, you wait here and I will go get your arrows."

Of all the hunts, 3-D competitions, etc... I can say that this was one of the biggest highlights of the sport for me. Spending time in my own yard with my two boys shooting our bows and having a great time.

Just wanted to share....

I hear what you are saying and I agree whole-heartedly. It does not get any better than the "firsts" with your kids.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Psalm 127:4

It is a treat to have the double blessings of enjoying time, and your hobbies with your children!

Thanks for sharing the story.

That is great to hear about fathers and sons out in the field enjoying life rather than in front of the TV....sounds like a great day.

I feel fortunate to have an equally rewarding weekend with my two boys. One is 12 and will be hunting this year and the other 9. They both have Bear Odyssy II bows and we spent Sat afternoon shooting at our block and 3D deer at my Aunt's farm.

We then proceeded out to the fields to see if we could call in a coyote. 20 minutes into it, my youngest starts getting bored when two coyotes come running towards us! It is like electricity with the boys. My youngest seems keen but is looking at the wrong spot...I then realize he has left his glasses at the house so I hand him the binos....he sees the coyote and can bearly contain himself. My oldest has an arrow nocked but we can't get the coyote closer than 50 yards. At one point we had 4 coyotes singing around us....they loved it....

It was a great day for me and the boys. I hope I have set the hook a little deeper for hunting....

Cheers

Jeff
