My son and I went in together and got drawn for this fall. We have hunted there before and hunt Missouri when we dont draw for Kansas. I love it! If y'all havent hunted white tail in the mid west you need too! Cant wait till October.

Bo: I am envious. I would love to hunt Midwest whitetails some day. We have a few whitetails in one or two management units here in Oregon, but mostly blacktails west of the Cascade Mountains and mule deer on the east side.

I drew a non-resident Kansas tag also, with my two hunting buddies. I drew in 99 and 2000. Sure is fun chasing those big whitetails. Took a nice 8 pnt in 99, 200lb with home made longbow.

Two friends of mine draw archery tags for Kansas every year...They hunt public land (Army Corps of Engineer land) and usually take bucks similar to the one in the photo above...They also claim to see many more that just never get within range........Next year I may try it myself.....Big K

STW, I drew a state wide archery tag so its not just for a unit. I hunt in Lynn County. Have you hunted Mule deer in Western Kansas? I am planning a trip out there the first of nov. and am looking for any info. Thanks!

I hunted there 3 years in a row this was the first year I did not. I hunted inthe NE part by marysville. Very easy on the tag. Two years ago i beleive ( according to info I got from the state) they did not fill all N.R. tags for archery?? Seemed odd to me. I miss seeing the big guys . I hunted the walk onland with out too many problems.
Being a native Kansas guy, I think I need to comment on a safety issue here about hunting in Kansas. Those who have already hunted in our fair state and have harvested deer and returned home safely...congratulations! But, I highly recommend that if one choses to hunt whitetails here (Kansas) with a bow and arrow, you should also carry a big, really big stick, to beat off the deer that you don't want to shoot. Wilson Reservior has really big bucks along with Lovewell Reservior in Northern Kansas. Anywhere in eastern Kansas is GREAT but in the northeastern part private ground is a little harder to get access to. Middle and southern Kansas have nice bucks and hunting Council Grove Reservior, Melvern Reservior, John Redmond Reservior all have big bucks. Must be good minerals in the soil cause all places have deer with thick massed antlers. Good hunting and be safe! And treat the land (both private and public) with respect...you might get to come back. Don't ask to lease land for hunting. That's the surest way to piss off land owners here. Mike
