I am lucky enough to have a few different areas to Bow hunt during the early season and in a couple of those areas it's mainly Pine Hills and the Mosquitoes really aren't a bother. However the other areas are bottom land and they are Fierce to say the least. I bought one of those cheap camo Bug suits at the Bass Pro and it's crap, they bite right through it. If I wear a long sleeve 100% Nylon shirt and Pants (Trek Lite) under the bug suit that keeps them from biting pretty much but, they devour your hands even w/ gloves on and the mask/hood that's on the thing makes it difficult to see especially, in low light. I've thought about wearing a thin set of latex surgical gloves under my gloves to keep them from biting my hands but, that'll probably make the ole' hands sweat profusly. I'm really not into the sprays because of the terrible odor. What methods do you all use to keep these pest from making you an afternoon snack? Any gear you've found worth buying? Alot of gun hunters around here are buying the new Mosquitoe Deleto that runs of of propane for their Box blinds but, to me, it seems that would have to emit a terrible odor. Reloader

Thermocell works off propane and no smell.

I thought the Thermocell was the same thing as a Mosquito Deleto and they do emit an odor. You place a cartridge in it and it emits an odor that keeps Mosq. away. In bow hunting there's no room for any unnatural odor. I go out of my way to be scent free and I don't feel that anything that emits odor will fit us bow hunter's needs. Reloader

reloader, get yourself a thermacell and never look back. I am south of you and have skeeters that you could mount and hang on a wall. Don't worry too much about the odor of the thermacell, as the deer will surly smell you before the thermacell. Keep down wind and enjoy hunting with out the little bastards. bill

Bill, Do you just hang it on a tree limb or clip it on yourself? Will it really keep em' back in our soggy bottoms? They are just fierce in our swampy areas this time of the year. Thanks, Reloader PS-Any of you tried the various bug suits? I tried the one layer "No See-um Mesh" suit to no avail. What about the Bug Tammer?

Any of you tried the tiny little electronic repellers that fit in your shirt pocket. They are supposed to emit a sound the mosquitoes don't like. Sounds like a load of crap to me. Reloader

reloader, save you're money on all the other crap that is out there. I hunt right in the Atchafalaya basin between the two spillway levees. YES the sketters are BAD, much worse than anything past Alex. I use the thermacell like this, If in a tree stand I place the thermacell under the chair I am in. If on the ground I place the thing arms length up wind. It takes about 15 min. for the thing to get warm enough to start working, so light ahead of time. Once this thing starts to work NO MORE BUGS!!!!! they are making a holster for it now, that attaches to the tree, but I don't think I need one based on how I use it now. Try one out, you will like it.

Amen on the thermacell. Also permethrin spray (Permanone) seems to work to keep them from biting through clothed areas - and absolutely works on ticks. Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

The thermacell most certainly works, but I did have a bear wind it/me in Alberta. He ran off only to come right back in a different line to the bait. The problem with the thermacell is that even if there is a breeze, the mosquitoes can still make a buffet of you if they don't fly through the repellent, ie., upwind. Thermacells do indeed emit an odor, it is faint, but like previously mentioned, your scent will booger a deer before the thermacell. I've been feeding the skeeters since Oct. 1. Finally pulled out the thermacell yesterday. Oh, and I got a Doe at 7pm. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

All those posins give me headaches. I've had my Bug Tammer since '97 and it works very well. http://www.bugtamer.com/economy.html I have the origanal one, not the leafy style. I understandthe owner /inventor is a Georgia bowhunter. The worst place I used it was in Quebec on a Caribou hunt. I have a pic somewere that the black flys loked like bees buzzing aound me. It worked good on the no-see-ums too. If you can't smell his breath, your're not close enough!

Basspro has them. The gas cartridge lasts 8 hrs, the bug mats last 4 hrs. The refill box has the correct proportion of mats to fuel. I think even Walmart has them now, but I'm not sure. Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!
