Well, once again I did not draw an elk tag, but my husband was fortunate enough to draw and connect with his recurve last Thursday. It was a 30 yard shot and the bull started to take off as the arrow left the rest. The hit was a little further back than where Chris wanted, but the quartering away shot knicked the bread basket and took out the left lung. He went about 100 yds., went uphill (which surprised us with a lung out)and circled back a bit,to go down not far from where he was shot. Jean...Chris shoots a Wapiti breakdown made by Keith Chastain in Arvado, Colorado. He was using 145gr.Bear broadheads, which are no longer being manufactured.
Chef....someone needs to tell these 12 javelina that! It was the last day of his hunt and he was sitting a tree stand. Chris is not one to sit a stand (he drives me crazy in a turkey blind) He is like a hound dog waiting to be let out of a crate. He had a few good stalks early on in the hunt, but had his presence blown a few times by cows (even with his scent lock and ghillie suit). Had two shots at nice bulls which were on higher ground, shot just over their backs. Was real hard on himself after that and took to doing a bit of stump shooting with his field tips. Realized he was holding the arrow too long at full draw and got back to quick instinctive release. Last day he decided to sit the stand and hope the bull that he had seen on the pre-scouting trail cam would come by. Was very pleased he connected with this bull on the last day! He's out trying to get a bear with his stick and arrow as I type . Chris thanks his TA comrades for your comments! Kind regards, Mary Taxidermist/Rugmaker | |||
