A Robin Hood is when your arrow perfectly hits the end of an arrow, blows the nock off and pentrates inside the arrow it hit.Like joining drinking straws. Its akin to a hole in one.

DAMMIT if I had my digi camera, I'd take a picture. It was a pair of XX78 2514 Eastons. Whats cool about gettin a robin hood with aluminums is the way the aluminum splits, all wavy and such. I wish I actually did it at the archery shop, then I could sign it and they would hang it on the wall.

OK, I am shooting a Golden Eagle Splitfire 32 single cam(1999-2002??), 70lb, 29" Easton XX78 2514's, Speed? probably pretty slow since I am shooting cannons with 125gr tips. I have been shooting on and off for about 3 years. Was shooting @ 20yd, just sat down(practicing shooting from the sitting position, cause thats how I am gonna be hunting this weekend) shot 4 arrows cold, not warmed up and got it on the fifth shot!

Funny thing, this was the second day in a row I had shot, and before that I had not shot since last March.

<side story>
Watching mythbusters last night, and what are they trying to do? Shoot a Robin Hood. I had told everybody the other day that would listen to how difficult that is. A once in a lifetime thing for some, and the show proved that.

I have done it twice. The archery guru on Myth Busters said it happens about every 3K shots.

I do know that if you practice enough and you constantly shoot at the same point of impact, you will begin to tightly group your arrows to the point of destoying them. You will loose nocks and vanes daily. After a while it gets expensive.

I shot a robin hood on the 4th April 2004. A friend made me a bronze plate that I have put up underneath the 2 arrows. Only when I wrote out what must be on the plate we both realised it was 04/04/04, which sounded and looked great.

Since that day I have 5 dots on my practice butt. I only shoot 1 arrow per dot. As crowrifle says it can becomes expensive.

Congratulations, I shot my Robin Hood about a month ago at 40 yards.

It is my first bow trophy and will have a special place in my office. After that I changed my field points. I would rather split a nock that pay for two arrows. Smiler

Been shooting a bow since I was a little tyke (maybe 50+ years ago?) and I have never done that. I've killed a number of deer, squirrels, rabbits, armadillos, "small game", birds, frogs, snakes, turtles, fish, etc. but no Robin Hood. I watched the same Myth Busters show and they concluded that the shot made in the movie by Howard Hill was a "myth" - as opposed to a "hit" maybe?

This is the latest of my RHs. My first two practice shots after arriving at elk camp. Really impressed my middle brother, John.

I think I've shot about 8 RHs all together. I really try not to since they are expensive. On flat targets I shoot 5 spots, but on 3D I get too lazy and shoot 2-3 arrows at a time and get the occasional RH. All my practice is at 30 yards.

I think RHs are easier with carbon or aluminum than wood, as once you are in the tube you can't split out like a wooden arrow.

I split 3-4 nocks for each true RH. The tougher the nock the better it prevents RHs, as it gives a chance to bounce off.

At the Tipp City pro shop they have a 3 arrow RH. Some guy shot it with a crossbow. I think they have a 20 yard range.

I have heard of one triple RH with a compound, but have never seen one myself.

Congrats way cool.

I have done 2 robbin hoods in my life, but due to soft tissue damage in my back havent been able to shoot for the last 20+ years. I left them at the archery range but they have closed since. I wish I had brought them home.

gixxer and Swede,

I think the modern carbon arrows make the best, deep straight RobinHoods, due to the bi-directional weave. Once the arrow enters the tube it cannot break out due to the spiral weave layer. (Most expensive RHs, too.)

Every one I've had with carbons was just like the pic. All the way to the fletches. I use heavy, tough arrows so that might be a factor also.

Yep, that one was the Allegiance - 80#, 30" draw, 586 grain 28.5" arrow.

Congradulations to you! I shot another one yesterday with my new Hoyt. Only had the bow 1 day and shot less than 50 arrows through it. Even called it to my co worker. Said, watch, I'll probably shoot my own arrow. I shot one with a Hoyt Provantage, 3 with my Hoyt Proforce, (1 was at 40 yards) and now one with my new Trykon. I never did get one with my UltraTec and I shot that bow for 6 years. Like others have said, I usually aim for 5 different spots. Lots of broken knocks too.

What a great trophy! It is one of the most difficult to come by. I have been shooting a bow for 42 years and have one Robinhood and a bunch of near misses that are just expensive broken arrows. My wife wondered why I kept it. She realized that was a dangerous question immediately after she asked it.
