It�s sad your not retrieving your deer.
I think a good bloodhound would have retrieve it.
In France we have now a really good institution : bloodhounds free for every hunter.
For 20 years, the UNUCR (Union of users of bloodhounds)is teaching, checking and promoting the bloodhound utilisation. The result is that now an available checked bloodhound can be summoned anytime not farer than 20 miles to the kill . More of it, it�s free.

These bloodhounds are mostly Hannoverische Schweisshund and Dachshounds. These dogs are selected and thoroughly trained (often daily) and checked with fake bloodtrails one day and two days old. The user is trained as well. These volunteers (who enjoy it more than hunting) are really mervallous and one is often wondering why this facility didn�t take place earlier. Imagine the peace of mind you feel, knowing that if you screwed up, anyway the game could be put out of its misery and the meat recovered.
I encourage You all to develop this facility. No sweat about finding volunteers among the doghollics who suddenly get respected Lords of Shooting.
