My compound bow had no decelerator and in my quest to quiet it down I installed one in line with the dampener. After shooting my first daily set - 50 arrows - the string seems to be frayed where it hits the rubber bumper. Does the string need to be served in that spot to prevent it? I plan to stop at a shop to check it out on a bow with factory installed decelerator but maybe somebody can pitch in? Thank you

Yes the string needs to be served where it is hitting.

I'll also agree with TheBigGuy. I have one on one of my bows and it was served where the decellerator hits the string.
