My wife and I are going to South Africa this year on a archery plains game hunt. She has decided that she wants to get a bow, learn to shoot and hunt on this trip. I am thinking a Hoyt or Mathews bow. Does any one here have any suggestions on a good bow that is 25 to 29 inch Draw Lenght and #40-#50 draw weight? Do any of you have a bow like this that may be for sale?

She will do well to get a 340 Destroyer from Bowtech with her draw length and draw weight.

Make sure the 1st couple of animals she hunt in South Africa is not a warthog or a Impala.

They are some of the best string jumpers in the world!!!

Blesbuck or Kudu cow or Blue Wildebeest would be better to start a new bow hunter with as they do not really string jump and the vitals are rather big.

Here is what I recommend you do, it is what I did, and it was recommended to me by a veteran bow hunter buddy of mine...

Take her to a good Archery Pro Shop.

Have her try several different bows.

There will be one that she can pull back the easiest/ and shoot the best.

I had a certain brand picked out, but after shooting several different brands I found I liked IT the least.

I liked a Mathews the best.

Also I would rig her up with a fixed, cut on contact broadhead. I like the Mangus Buzzcut or maybe for a 40 to 50lb bow the 4 blade Slick Trick.

Matthews new 2010 catalog has a special feature model for the Ladies. I believe it is called the "Passion". Designed around a shorter draw, a bit more brace height(smoother), and draw weights with them in mind.

Great info guys. Very good sugestion Gerhard. I will follow your advice. I already have the crew at Archery Headquarters on board to set up a Mathews Passion and a couple other bows for her next Saturday.

Shoot as many different bows and then you guys will be able to make a decision based one all of them.

After shooting 4 different bows my wife chose a Mathews passion. It should be here in another week or two. She said the smothness of draw and the feel of the bow when released was far better than the other bows she tried. I can't wait to get my new shooting partner geared up and ready to rock!!

Just a quick update. My wife loves her Mathews Passion bow. She has only been shooting for two months and is already kicking but on the 3D shoots. Her range estimation is spot on! She is shooting in the 130's already. Both kids are shooting with us as well now. It is truly a great time for all of us. It is nice to get back in to archery. I got out of it due to not having any friends that liked to shoot or hunt regularly with a bow. We have been to three 3D shoots in 5 weeks. Number four is this coming weekend in Payson, AZ.

I came in too late to suggest the Mathews Passion.
But it is what the local archery shop owners wife shoots.

Neat bow for anyone with a shorter draw length and issues pulling a heavier model.
