Yesterday was the opener here in MI and it was an awesome morning. I was hunting 10 Miles north of Grand Rapids and at 8:10 I shot a nice plump doe and she fell where she stood. Then I happened to notice a few deer coming down the same run about 5 minutes later and saw they all had antlers. They became real curious at the doe lying in the middle of the run and cautiously investigated. the 2 larger of the group had stood back to let the 5 younger and smaller racked buck check it out. After what seemed a lifetime the 2 larger bucks came in also. At this point they had all dispersed and were roaming and feeding all around me. I waited for this one buck to give me a shot and when he did he offered me one at 13 yrds quatering away. I took the shot and watched as my deer ran off. I then hung my bow up and called my brother on the radio and heard a noise and looked and saw a real bruiser( the bigger of the 2 larger deer) had come in to check out what all the ruckus was about and was standing at 20 yrds broadside but offered no shot before slowly walking off in the direction of my deer I had shot. This really large buck is a good 18 to 19 inch inside spread 8 point that I have on film from one of my trail cams. After waiting about 40 minutes I got down to track my buck and found him about 100 yrds away laying right next to one of our food plots. He was a really nice 8 point with a 16" inside spread. All in all Id say that was by far the best opener Ive ever had and will always remember that morning. Oh yeah I also found out that I have the buck I shot on film also. COOL!!!!!!

Congratulations on your hunt 3 more weeks here before season at the rate your going your going to be taged out soon were only allowed 3 deers with are bow in W.V. but we can only shoot one a day.

Thanks guys! I almost ended it all last night. I had a great 2 1/2yr old within 15yrds and he spooked when I tried to stop him. He would have had to go on the wall. He was a good 17 to 18 inside 8 point. I can seem to figure out why all of a sudden my luck has changed but I seem to go through this cycle about every 4 yrs or so. Ill have a few years where I dont see much then all of a sudden Ill hit it big and see tons of buck and good ones too. This year on 3 sits Ive seen 12 bucks and 5 shooter over say 14 inches. Go figure. I kind of hope I dont fill my other buck tag before the rut. You cant beat hunting the rush of hunting the rut. Good luck to all and straight shootin.
