Quick question: my brother is hoping to get into archery, but is righty with left eye dominance. Can anyone offer some help as to what options there are for him, please? He has never shot a bow before, so that may be a plus in that he's never learned any bad habits. With rifle, I've gotten him to shoot lefty, but I don't know if that will be an option with a bow. Help greatly appreciated.

I am right handed, and left eye dominate.
I shoot rifles, shotguns, and handguns right handed. I use my left eye with handguns, and my right eye with long guns.

I just close my left eye when I aim with a long gun.

I also shoot a bow right handed, and like with a long gun I close my left eye when aiming with the bow.

Works for me.

I even hit something once in a while. Big Grin

I'm left-handed, right eye dominant. I shoot everything right-handed. It's just a matter of learning to do it.

I'm right handed, but left eye dominant and I shoot right handed. I have never had any problem using my sights. I don't think he will either.

I'm right handed and left eyed dominant as well. I learned to shoot rifle/pistols/shotguns left handed, but still shoot my bow right handed. I have not had any problems and I doubt your brother will either with a little bit of practice.

I've actually gotten more comfortable shooting guns left handed than right, but I can't get comfortable shooting a left handed bow.

My youngest son (an active duty Military guy) is strongly right handed and strongly left master-eyed.

We tried everything. Left handed. Right handed with left eye blocked. Etc.

We finally found that he was able to easily use a Holosight mounted on an AR-15 Carbine with both eyes open. He's just deadly with that ... a good thing given his occupation.

Have no data on his use of a bow, but there is a holosight and mount for bow use ... and it works great for me. If you can find test drive one locally, it might just work.

Kamo,

I would suggest a short trip north to Brian's Archery shop in Barrington, NH.

They will have both RH and LH bows, and they will set your brother up correctly.

If he shoots with a peep in the string and closes his left eye when sighting it should take all the left eye dominance out of the equation. I'm basically in the same boat and this works well for me.
Take good care,

I don't understand why anyone wants to fight a natural action when it comes to left eye dominance. I am right handed and left eye dominant.I shoot everything left handed, a rifle , a bow and I shoot pool left handed. Everything else I do right handed. My wife gave me My first bow for Christmas 30 years ago it was right handed, I shot it for a while but something just didn't feel right. I went to the archery shop where she bought it and we determined that I was left eye dominant I never even heard the term before that I just did what felt natural, he gave me a left hand bow and it just felt right. I never looked back.I shoot with both eyes open all the time.I own a couple of left handed rifles but can shoot a right handed rifle just as fast and accurately as a right handed shooter. Why the aversion to left handed shooting? Can someone give me an answer?
