I am looking for a Trophy Archery Whitetail hunt for 2 people in December(2007) or January '08. Would like a chance at deer in the roughly 150" or larger class and have about 5 days to hunt. Would be willing to spend about 5k (give or take) per person and not being -20 degrees is a plus. Going with my dad and he would prefer to stay somewhere with a nice lodge/accomodations. Can anyone suggest specific outfitters that have good reputations, that you have been hunting or have experience with? Is Canada our best bet? Would prefer a bit warmer weather but if we find the right place in Canada, it would be doable. Thanks.

Do you prefer a non high fenced hunt? Or are open to high fence?

Preferably low/no fence but would consider a high fence if it is a very large property and the fence does not interfere with game and make the hunting less challenging. Got any suggestions?

Just returned from my bowhunt in saskatchewan. Passed on numerous bucks in the 140-150 class. too many to count. Passed on over a dozen over 150 to 160 class as i was looking for something over 170". Others in my hunting party shot 182" - 155' and 152". The 182' and 155" were harvested on film and will be airing on versus next season. This has been my 7th trip and every year i have harvested a deer ove 150" up to 167" that is why i passed on everything under 170". We hunted with Baitmasters hunting camp Brian & Sylvia Hoffart and like i say it was my 7th trip there. He has the BEST operation going and 150" class deer are the minimum i would expect you to shoot. This is a phenominal place and the opprotunity to kill a true giant is always present. They are quality people and the hunting is well lets just say unbelievable a true bowhunters paradise. Give them a call i know they had a couple late Nov or Early dec hunts open due to cancellations and it may be cold but i assure you the hunting will be smokin. Their # is 306-832-2084 ask fro Brian or Sylvia and tell them Doug sent you. Doug Klunder

Based on the TIME FRAMES given, south Texas is your only real choice. I know the area fairly well as I lived in San Antonio a number of years and outside Bishop a short time also. I couldn't afford the price to hunt down there at the time but I rode and looked a lot at times. I did access some land in Bexar County and bowkilled a number of deer there. A couple of good ones, for me anyway. King Ranch is very good. Y O Ranch is very good with bowhunters. These are expensive. There are others. Personally I would look to hunt around Alice were I the payin type. The country there is very nice and the bucks eyepoppers. Be very aware, there are some very interesting people down close to the border. Deer hunting may not be their primary interest, ... remember, where rabbits abound, foxes are also. I'd just mind my own business of hunting a big one and not get lured into anything else. oh, I highly recommend taking a day and visiting the Buckhorn Hall of Horns in San Antonio. You will forever remember it but take a camera anyway. As for me, I'm headin to Ohio in a few days with 3+ weeks to Apache camp and hunt a booner on vast public lands for the price of gas and a license. Although I can now afford a south Texas hunt, my personal value of the relatively free hunting in much of the midwest is much higher and I prefer using the money to afford November off the table for same. Good luck on your adventure. I'd be interested to know what/who you decide on.
