Hi Guys I need to get myself a hunting bow again and am looking for advice from anyone who has experience with bow shops in SA on where to start looking. Natal is best for me but if you think they are worth it then any other part of the country is fine. Probably after a Bowtech 82nd Airborne or similar with good drop away rest whisper kits if not standard and some new carbon shafts with muzzy's. While we are at it if anyone has recommendations that will be great too as I have been out of it for a while now Chat soon Ian

Hi Ian, I would suggest contacting a good friend of mine at arnold@outdoorfrontiers.com He is a superb bowhunter in SA and will certainly give you a recommendation on a good archery shop to do business with. As for the rest and broadheads, I use the QAD Pro HD dropaway rest. It's a drop away rest that will hold an arrow while stalking. I have taken numerous animals spot & stalk and love this rest. I was a dedicated "Muzzy Man" for decades, finding that they performed well on game. But in the past two years, I switched brands from the four blade, 125 grain Muzzy to the four blade, 100 grain Slick Trick Magnum 100. I like the more compact design as it is less effected by the wind and I love the toughness of the Slick Trick head. The problem with Muzzy is that they use an aluminum ferrule which has bent on me numerous times, either on a pass-through striking the ground or hitting bone. Slick Tricks have an all steel ferrule and don't bend nearly as easily! Plus, they cost less than Muzzies... Also, check out Forge Bow Company's new arrow design, the SlipStream. They fly amazingly fast and with the patented shaft design, have incredible penetration. Heck, while you're there, check out the complete line of Forge Bows. They offer a great value at a price far less than BowTech or Matthews, yet the performance is there... http://www.forgebow.com

Hi Shof Thanks for the info, the bows look great, do you know if they ship to SA or have a local agent? I will drop Arnold a message. YOu are one of many to suggest the Magnums over the Muzzys now, I have yet to handle one but from what you have said they sound great. Have you hunted SA a few times? Chat soon Ian

Hi Ian, The bowshop in PTA is probably the best shop in SA. They're agents for Bowtech and Elite. Before settling on an 82nd Airborn. Check out the Elite Z28. Regards, Craig

I hunted in SA once and loved it. I'm in the process of figuring a way to return in 2010. I've taken wild boar, American bison, sheep, whitetail and a 1,200 - 1,400 pound asian water buffalo with the Slick Trick Magnum 100s and they REALLY work. They're a very tough, durable head that flys well. Forge did have at one time a dealer in SA, but I talked to the president of the company and evidently, the dealer seriously screwed Forge over, so they no longer have a dealer in your neck of the woods. However, they do ship to SA. If you were to order a bow from them, my suggestion would be to get it totally set up from them so all you have to do is the minor dialing in. I now have three Forge bows. All have proven highly accurate bows with great kinetic energy for good penetration. The bows have a lifetime warranty and Steve Pagel, the president of Forge doesn't have to worry about it, because he rarely has a bow fail. They're not a well known bow, but he told me he'd rather put the money into quality components and design than in advertising and marketing. I love mine.

Ian, I have been around the block with bow shops in South Africa. I can honestly tell you that Archers Edge in Pretoria will go that extra mile. Not only when it comes to selling you the correct bow but also the after sales service Have a look at the current Bowhunter magazine and read about the Bowtech Air Raid. http://www.archersedge.co.za/ Phone Redge and talk to him. I get most of my stuff from the Bow Shop in SA. Redge from Archers Edge has a good reputation as well. Either of them should be able to set you up.
