Well I just about got my chance on a nice 5x5 tonight but he just wouldn't come quite close enough. A compound shooter would have had him on the ground.....but us recurve guys gotta wait that extra 10 yards. There were 3 bucks all looking at my decoy tonight for about 1/2 hour it was such a blast, I really had a good time. That is until I tried driving out of the pasture on the 3 inches of fresh slimy snow....it took me 3 tries to get up the little hill before the gate. I almost had to put my chains on- I hate doing that.

On the bright side it will keep the owners out of the field where they are working and scaring away the deer!!!!

At least you were smart enough not to take a marginal shot. You have a good chance to get it another time. Good luck!

The more you hunt and try, the luckier you get. I hope you get your critter in the end. The harder you work the bigger the reward, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hey Chef,

Looks like you are getting some action!

I was thinking of loading up the truck with goodies, and drive out to the Ghost Friday afternoon, and spend the night. There's always some muledeer and whitetail there when I look.

Will be chilly... and I've heard reports of the trail being washed-out; might not be able to get as far in as I'm hoping

One of these days I'll get to draw on a buck!

Being out was great, but the wind up there was horrendous!! Went out on Friday afternoon, found the trail up completely washed out (4 foot deep ruts), so I had to hike in. No game to speak of, except for another wolf. I'm seeing more wolves than deer this fall. Spent the night in the truck and left camp again at 5 am. And then came this guy on a quad, who sped by me on Saturday morning in the very early morn'. Mad

Plenty of tracks of cougar, and wolf, and some deer. Freezer still empty, three weeks to go.

Ya the pressure is on isn't it? I went to the Calgary archery center to buy a treestand. I thought it opened at 4 tonight was told at the door you aren't coming in here are you??? We don't open til 4:30 pretty rude and poor service to a guy who supports them as much as possible. I guess I'll go out tonight and find somewhere else to spend my money--walmart os outta stock --they tried to sell me a x-mas treestand!! If things are still bad after the end of next week I think I'll pop over to Sask.
for a little rifle hunting.

Are you kidding!! Big Grin

I'm about ready to draw on something again. Yes, again.... I completely missed a nice mule buck on my first ever outing with a bow... I can talk about it now... this was right early in the season in 410. And when I say missed, I mean MISSED. Like a foot left and three feet high. I might go back up there on Friday... maybe that buck has forgotten about me.

Frans,

That buck is probably still shaking.

One good thing is that he might feel safest standing still, since you "lead him" so far last time! Big Grin

Chances are still good after a miss. Unless the deer seen you or smelled you of course. I had a friend that shot 6 times at the same deer. They spend their life jumping from branches falling and other strange noises. They do not know they were shot at!
One year after shooting five deer in archery, gun and muzzle loader seasons, I went out with my indian osage bow. I shot at a 10 point and forgot to aim low. The arrow went over his back and he jumped from the noise of the arrow hitting the ground. I nocked another arrow as he came back to see what made the noise. I then decided that I didn't want to kill him because I didn't need another deer and he had good genes to spread. I watched him for 45 minutes scraping and tearing up trees. Darn, no camera either! MUCH more enjoyable then butchering!
