Hi guys. I am primarily a lever-action rifle hunter but I have played around with a couple of PSE bows through the years. A buddy of mine is the local dealer for Darton and he is wanting to put me into a new bow of theirs. Dang, I forget the name. Anyway, it is a new model that supposedly is adjustable to the pull length of the bowman. Any thoughts on Dartons?

Frankly, I didn't know anybody outside of Michigan had ever even heard of Darton bows. I've lived in Michigan my whole life, and I have definitely heard of Darton. Most folks around here either own or have owned Darton, and most started on a Darton (mostly the SL-50 model which is no longer made). I currently own a 1983 Darton Lightning. It is fast and accurate. In fact, 1983 was the fourth year in a row that the Darton Lightning was the fastest bow on the market, if memory serves. AMO rating is 245 fps, if memory serves. My friend, Rich Eckleston, son of Floyd Eckleston, tells me that Fred Bear said Darton makes the best compound bow on the market. This is admittedly dated information, but I myself am admittedly dated.

You would do well to own and shoot Darton bows, in my opinion.

I have shot Darton bows my whole bowhunting career. Ive owned 3 Darton bows and I would not hesitate to buy another. The bow Im currently shooting is an 1996 model Darton Wrangler. This bow is so foregiving and accurate, that I just cant seem to give it up, even though its 7 years old.
Bottom line,you cant go wrong buying a Darton bow!!!

Thanks, guys. That's good to know. My buddy was a serious shooter who had 1000 pounds of lead for casting, but more and more all he wants to do is sling slivers and he won't sell any other bows than Darton. We have only one other bow retailer in the community and they only sell PSE, so not a lot to choose from locally.

I have shot a darton excel for the past 6 years a good bow. I have killed quite a few deer with it.
