Are you talking about the hunts where you literally shoot them w/ a Tranquilizer dart on your arrow and then take pictures, measure them, and let em' go?

If so, any setup would work as long as you can shoot it accurately and you use the same weight field points as the tranq. tips weigh. It will not take much ump to get a needle into the beast.

Good Luck

Is this post serious? I'm sure rhinos have enough problems (with being endangered perhaps) without having to run around the African bush as a carfentinol junkie.

This is entirely my opinion, but darting something to attach a radio collar or to tag the animal to learn about its life history, habitat preferences, seasonal movements, etc. is one thing. Darting it (with highly controlled narcotic drugs) just for sport after you pay some vet to mix up the drugs for you is no different that paying someone just to watch them inject heroin into themselves. Get that camera ready...

The funny thing is, I'm sure the argument of "the $$ paid to dart the animal goes back into rhino conservation so it is worth it" comes into play, but when these are on large private game reserves, it just goes into buying more rhinos to dart with drugs!

Come on SCI, get out of the dick waving contests and REALLY spend money on conservation and the protection of hunting rights!!!

I'd be interested to know the mortality rate of something like this. Any researcher or vet will tell you that tranquilizing an animal is not 100% safe, and that the animal can die of an overdose or from complications due to stress on their cardiovascular and neurological systems. In my mind, getting a my picture with a rhino wouldn't be worth putting it at that kind of risk. Just my opinion.
