| All I know about the cartridge and brass that I have were marked 38-55 for 9.3. The bullets are 9.3. They came with a treasure trove of loaded rounds and brass. I had every thing from 17x22-250 to 50 BMG and every thing in between. I have 17-22mag "17HMR" loaded and shot in the late 80s. I have a lot of brass that have no headstamp. I used to have several hundreds of long neck 223 brass. I've given most of this away to friends. I got rid of my R2 Lovell and so on. |

| There is an old German round based on the 360 NE case called 9,3x57R/360. The just loved to copy everything British 100+ years ago. Normally made from 9,3x72R brass but 38-55 is close enough to work, albeit a tad short. So maybe it's no mystery but a cheapskate that made do? http://doublegunshop.com/forum...Number=405508&page=1 |

| the 38-55 uses a 360 diameter bullet so opening it to take a 364 wouldn't take any imagination, or effort.
the owner might have just got hold of an older rifle with an oversized barrel and instead of trying to get a mold made he just bought the larger jacketed bullets. |

| The 38-55 used a 378-380 diameter bullet originally and a 9.3 is 366 diameter so they would have to neck it down, not just stuff a larger bullet in the case. |

| The 9.3=.366 bore...That won't work in a 38-55 and if you rebored it to a 9.3x55 the bullet construction of a 9.3 bullet would possibly be too tough and tend to penetrate well enough but with little expansion would be my guess..A fruitless endeavor at any rate IMO..

Ray, Gee Whiz, man I would have never figured it out without your post! Not interested if is fruitfull or not. I just asked if anybody had heard of this round. I do not have a rifle for it and I do not plan on building one for this ammo. Thanks for your input though. |
