Great old movie short on moose hunting in Sweden! I was mystified by the manner in which the shooter held the rifle for the offhand shot. His fore hand was directly under the magazine, not out on the forearm. That type of hold is typically used in target shooting at static targets, but seems a poor way to hold a rifle for a shot at a running moose. I'll bet there was originally a written script to go with it to narrate the action.

For grins, here's a modern day Swedish hunt movie almost a perfect counterpart to the 1938 version. WAY too many gadgets, bells, whistles, and electronics are carried by these "modern" hunters, and their rifles look like something out of a 1950's Flash Gordon cartoon. In the end, they muffed the shot and took a day or so to finally find the poorly-hit moose.

Great old movie of another time, and can agree with the comments re the 'modern' hunt. What self respecting moose would want to respond to call and be shot by one of those f...ugly rifles Roll Eyes

I have shot moose from a similar seated position as the first shot. Typically hunters back then didn`t have much shooting practice. To get 3 mooses back then must be extreme it was a tiny population as they were almost extinct by year 1900. The reloading for the 12,7*44r must have been for the camera only.
