Biebs, go north to Newburgh and dig up and clone those mammoths they have there . Then you'll have something to hunt with a 50-140 ! I'll back you up with my baby 45-70 ! 2020 Big Grin

Yes, the bullet is heavier and the rim is a bit thicker but while the .50-140 may be a huge American round, the .500 x 3 or 3 1/4 bpe is very common in bpe double and single shot English rifles. 5 drams (about 136 grains) and a 440-grain bullet makes a good round for big soft skinned game. As to the .45-70 and .50-90 they must have been too small for the Brits.

Look in 11th Ed. of COTW page 226 of wildcat section,
you will see the 510 Nitro Express.
D'Arcy Echols built it on a Hagn falling block for Bob Schneidmiller.

It is simply the 50-140 Sharps 3.25" using modern brass and smokeless powders.

It at least equals the 500 NE ballistics.
It also beats the old 50-140 BP load using 700-grain bullet by about 600 fps faster, with IMR-4350, according to COTW.
