Speaking of spalted. It is not supposed to grow around here but I found a southern sugar maple that the loggers had taken only the butt cut. It was already starting to spalt and I felt it was my duty to rescue a pickup load before they burned all the slash. It will be a couple of years in the drying but well worth it I think.
