Jamison Cartridge Case manufacturing has resumed just down the highway in Rapid City, South Dakota.

They just announced full line availability.

I believe the new owners have some $$ (i.e. where withal). They moved all the equipment into a 30,000 square foot facility, and are throwing some cash at new machines and a faster repair and retooling cycle for making different cases on their present machines.

I am not crying for joy, but I do have a happy smile on my old mug.

Moved from Sturgis to Rapid City, SD. clap
Good news.
Maybe out on Turbine Drive next to HS Precision and the softdrink bottling plant ... can't remember if that was Pepsi or Coca-Cola?

Here's to Marc Jamison for building the business, hope he is well, whatever he is up to now. beer
Wonder if "Jamison International, LLC" is still the name of the company?
A good name it is:
No relationship to Rick Jamison. tu2

Looking good:

http://www.captechintl.com/products.html

Interesting items on their web site logo page:
.408 Chey-Tac and .375 Chey-Tac brass, and says loaded ammo too!

"All calibers are offered as empty cartridge cases and as loaded ammunition.
For more information call us at 1 (605) 791-1974"

The brass as last made by Marc Jamison was best quality stuff.
Hopefully Captech brings all the fine tuning worked out by Marc Jamison to the current operation. tu2

I have called and talked to a person at Captech International.

Same Kathy Greenhaw, Office Manager, is there, handling orders.

Same Marc Jamison is there as Engineer/Consultant.

They have not finished getting all the machines set up.
Will be up to speed and same "best quality soon." clap

They might consider supplying basic cylindrical Rigby/Lapua if there is enough interest in it.

I am waiting for a call back from Kathy Greenhaw,
so I can start showing some interest in Jamison International basic cylindrical Rigby/Lapua brass.
I have lots of uses for that!
Any emails or phone calls in support of this interest would be appreciated.

Just a quick check looking at what they are making and seems they are short right now on RUM. However, looks like soon they will be making 7mm RUM. I am going to speak to them about basic unformed and no head stamp RUM. I can get it head stamped, but no source of anything basic, that will hold the pressures up to 65000-75000 PSI. Which I don't run things that hard in the B&Ms and keep them to 60000-63000 PSI if possible, but one must be able to stand a little more as you know. If I could get that--Doc M would be a happy happy Boy, and that would solve forever the B&M head stamp issue! If they want to head stamp, that would be fine too.

Doc M,

Reading the history, they started biz doing .408 Chey-Tac on the .505 Gibbs case head.
They do have the tooling for RUM cases.
Dave Estergaard had them make up a 470 Mbogo bunter for him and make 470 Mbogo brass headstamp,
on brass that was left cylindrical 2.945" long, and easy to neck down to 470 Mbogo.
They certainly have capacity to make short RUM cylindrical with whatever headstamp desired.

90 days from now they should be fully installed and running full steam ... still setting up the plant now.

All the important old folks are there and some new ones too.
We shall see what they do in the future regarding custom brass runs, eh?

dogcat,
They seem to be advertising loaded ammo now.
I never paid attention to that aspect of their biz in the past.
I have stocks of Jamison .408 Chey-Tac, .505 Gibbs, and 470 Mbogo basic cylindrical brass, all first-rate, best-quality stuff.
When Marc Jamison first started up some of the old oddball obsolete stuff (like 500 Jeffery) Wink
there were some small variations in some specs like rim thickness, etc., but he always got it right in final production.

We will have to see what the new, bigger company will do regarding boutique, niche, wildcatter customers.

Of course they ought to consider landing B&M as a customer more like landing a bigtime contract. tu2

Prior to this move onto the map, CAPTECH seems to have manufactured, and or procured ammunition for the Secret Squirrel alphabet soup of OGAs (Other Government Agencies).

Since THE war for civilization seems to be ramping down for a bit, I believe the boutique stuff will continue to be made. Government contracts can be big$$, but when one ends, that party is over. I believe, but mainly hope like hell that they know that they are best served by keeping one foot in each arena.

From what I saw on their prices they are very reasonable as well.

RIPPER!

Thank you and all for digging this up! I just got off the phone with Kathy and while it was just a preliminary introduction, she saw no reason at all that we could not get to work on B&M Brass!

So, it will be in the works, there is a lot I need to convey, so I will be sending an email to her with all the details and information to get things started. Not going to happen soon, they of course have a hell of a lot going on, and I have no problem with that either, but we have to start somewhere.

Basic jest, looks like B&M brass is going to start coming from Jamison!

I ordered some 338 Norma Magnum last week (built in the old facility) to test their "quality" info (below) and they (Kathy) advised:

“1. The CheyTac brass should be available in 60 days.

2. We will have ammo also but we are still working on development but our goal is 60 days also.

3. The turned projectiles will be 90 days.”

They added in response to my inquiry about quality, “our brass is typically a 2 to 1 ratio on the reloads as compared to other brands of the same caliber.”

I bought some 416 Taylor for an acquaintance a few years back. I made him anneal every second cycle. Those cases have an average of twelve cycles on them, and they are still in decent shape.

A run of 5000 pieces will certainly get their attention!
Maybe there will be a little over-run of 9.5x70 for me to scarf up?

I'll post pictures here of the Jamison/Captech International .338 Lapua Magnum fully formed and basic cylindrical brass, when I get it, in transit now.

I have a QC "Torture Test" for .338 Lapua Magnum brass that involves fire forming it to 12.7x68/49-10,
then necking it up to make 500 Mbogo Short/50-12 brass. Wink

Too bad about the exalted Horneber reputation gone south.

Could you tell us the story of the 9,5x70 Magnum, and how it relates to you, a Mr. Miller (?), Waffen Jung GmbH, and the trademarked name "Tornado?"

I have a 9,5x70 Magnum from "Hilltop Gun Shop" of Kentucky, and a set of reloading dies fron Triebel of Germany. tu2

On October 25th 2011 I wired $4000 to Dieter Horneber.

On November 20th, 2011 Dieter acknowledged receiving the money, on October 26th.

On November 27th Dieter acknowledged receiving another $400 which was wired from one of our AR friends that I had sent some bullets to.

I have not heard another word since November 27th 2011. I have sent repeated emails, all nice, all cordial, asking about time frame on the brass, and nothing more.

On October 23rd 2011 this was the quote I received from Dieter.

quote:
Dear Michael,

I will evaluate your samples. May be we have to make the heads harder or
thicker to achieve 65.000 psi.

In January we manufacture similar cases.
Quote:
1000 cases .300 RUM cylindrical 2.24" head stamp B&M 9.3 1200.- Euro
1000 cases .300 RUM cylindrical 2.24" head stamp B&M .475 1200.- Euro
2 head stamps 340.- Euro
postage 170.-
total 2910.- Euro

Best regards
Dieter Horneber

November 20 2011 From Dieter

quote:
Dear Michael,

we received 2.855.09 Euro 26st of Oktober. We start to draw the cases.

Best regards
Dieter Horneber

November 27th 2011 Email from Dieter

quote:
Dear Michael,

we received 400.- Euro from Mr. Schauz. Your account is now 3255.09 Euro.

Best regards
Dieter Horneber

I have heard nothing more of Dieter.

I suppose he is still alive? About the only excuse I can think of that I would allow to pass is if he had died or something? Other than that, I see no excuse, at least to contact me one way or the other?

Today I said F**K It! Sent an email telling Dieter since he could not send the brass, to send the Money!

Now do you really think I expect to hear anything?

Wonder how many orders it would take for them to produce a run of 10,75x68 brass?? Seems that every time this old timer gets mentioned, its squashed for anyone in the USA who only has access to Betram brass....

Yes, famous old hunting pony, hard to find today.
If 25 people wanted 200 pieces each, that would add up to a nice bread and butter run for Jamison/Captech International.
They would be my pick for "most likely to get it right." tu2

They have shipped some brass to me as of today, .338LM fully formed and some basic cylindrical of same. tu2

I seem to recollect it being mentioned in 2011 on one of the AR Forums that Martini & Hagn was importing/stocking RWS brass in this caliber and selling it for a very reasonable price. Has anyone checked this out?

@michael,@RIP,

yes, the moment i´ll get a reply from Jamison/Captech i send you the details....

I had to use a dictionary to find enough words how pi...d i´m about that guy.
The only "good" thing is (told you) that he´s tryed to screw some of the austrian guys that had govenment contracts to deliver "special" ammo to their elite-forces.
Bad bad idea...they can ruin your day VERY fast and efficient....

Have had some kind of "talks" to HEYM about their "Martini" Rifle and the Option to build them in 9,5x70 and/or 12,7x68 (the beautyfull .49-10) but that had to stopp. They only want to make FAST and easy money selling Double-Rifles to dump-rich russians....

Too bad! I would consider a Heym Martini in both of those chamberings,
but only if stainless and synthetic,
with the square bridges cut to Weaver cross-slot configuration. tu2

So the history of the 9.5X70mm Magnum remains shrouded in mystery?

They are located north of Cabelas though. I will be stopping in Monday morning before work to see if they still have any 9.3x64 brass.

So the history of the 9.5X70mm Magnum remains shrouded in mystery?[/QUOTE]

@RIP,

ther´s no mystery about it.

HISTORY:

Started with a request from a Hunter that has a Mauser 66 in .416RIGBY if i could design him a "smaler" Round same Headsize and "Africa-legal".....
No Problem.
Took .338LM Case necked it up to hold .375"Diam. Bullets....... done.
Think that was back about 2001/2002 something.
I wanted to have that cartridge into the Marked, so i contacted some of the "better" Mauser-Magnum Gunsmith here. You know all the Names like Prechtl, Ritterbusch, Hartmann&Weiss and....Theo Jung.
No one was interested exept Jung.
We made a deal that he shows the Round at the IWA Gun Fair and we´ll see whats going on. He had a Guy that made a single cardboard Box showing a Buffalo and the Caliber 9,5x69 "Tornado" ( That is Waffen-Jungs Trademark).
There was a lot of reaction mostly from Hunters and collectors so i looked to find a company to make stamped cases.
The only company that answered was SM-THUN (swiss Ammo company) having a prize that was ok, BUT a MINIMUM Order of 40.000 Cases pre-paid.

Not possible for me ( i´m just a little Mechanic with an expencive Hobby).........

So the complete design falls to sleep. A handfull of Rifles have been made, and did a nice Job hunting in Africa (Namibia, SA, ...)
300grs.Swift A-Frame mostly loaded.

And finally one of my Police/military Frends called asking if there would be an Idea to shoot 1500 - 2000 Meters using something smaller and cheaper than .50BMG or the various "Chey-Tac"-Designs.....

OK, sitting down, looking for a "Match" Bullet, found the 330grs LEHIGH ( .375-100) coated it using hBN did some pressure testing and load development ( NORMA MRP Powder is BEST) and did some testshooting at a mile...finisch..

NOW, hoping to get a reply from that office-Lady at Captech...

Best
