Son took his first buck

L. David KeithSon took his first buck
Took my younger son to KY Saturday morning on his first deer hunt. If was Kentucky's opener with rifle. He scored with a 150 yard shot that dropped the buck DRT. Weatherby Mark V in .280 Rem pushing Speer 160 grain "Grand Slam" hand loads. He spotted this buck in the tall, thick weeds but before he could take a clean shot, the buck walked off into the woods. I gave a few tending grunt calls and the buck came back out looking for his rival. Bad mistake for this 8 point. We had a great time but then the work started. Buck weighed 184.4 pounds live weight, so there are many steaks, roasts and burger for the freezer. We shared with the landowner. Hopefully we will get a chance to hunt in our home State of TN before the end of the season. Good luck to everyone this year. PS: If you hunt from a tree stand, ladder or climber, always wear a safety harness. It can and will save your life.

BEGNOCongrats.
My 11 year old granddaughter wants to kill her first deer so we have been shooting her .243 to get her ready.
No hurry though, we hunt my own land and are watching on cams that report back to my phone.
I would really like her first to be a buck but she is fine with a doe.
Dropped the trap on a hog this morning. Dead hog walking.
I have a JagerPro trap that sends pics and can drop the gate on my command from my phone. Deadly

L. David KeithThank you fella's, it was a lot of fun to watch him remain calm and make an excellent shot. This was the first time he had ever fired a centerfire rifle. I started him with a scoped air rifle and it paid off. He passed his hunter safety 3 years ago.

Even with my children in their 30's I rather see them kill game than myself.
Now I have grand kids coming up that will even be better.
