Do not use wood with a compound, it is dangerous. For target, carbon can't be beat. But for hunting use the heavy side of aluminum listed in the charts for your bow weight and arrow length. It is very possible to tune your bow for carbon for target, then move to the heavy hunting arrow with a very small adjustment.
