I bowkill from 10 to 20 deer each year and have been using Thunderheads since they came out I guess. <br /><br />Anyway they work fine but I know a guy on another site that tests all kinds of broadheads and his results were so impressive with these I had to check em out. I ordered a half dozen this morning and I'm looking forward to getting em bloody.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.slicktrick.net/" target="_blank">http://www.slicktrick.net/</a><br /><br /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Looks like a nice broadhead! Let us know how you like them!

In looking at the picture I am curious as to how this head will line up on various diameter shafts as in the picture it looks a little narrow compared to the aluminum shaft. will there be a gap between the shank of the broadhead and the arrow or will the shank overlap the shaft on a thin diameter carbon?
Or is the washer to help with that?

Thanks

They'll definitely work, but I think thunderheads are probably just as effective - and less expensive. Any broadhead that actually has a point, rather than that fat, Muzzy, chisel-head decelorator tip is going to work well.

Let us know how they shoot.

Aquavit,
Do you sharpen the Muzzy tip?
Mine are razor sharp!
Yes when they first came out they were extremly blunt punch tips but put a stone to them and they sharpen up to a cut on impact edge and hold it.

I make sure all my heads are razor sharp, but I'm using Thunderheads exclusively now. I think that most of the Muzzy heads just have too fat of a tip and spread force over too wide of an area to be as effective as Thunderheads. Just my opinion, but years ago I had a bad experience with a Muzzy failing to "adequately penetrate" (the deer died) after hitting a rib. It appeared to me that it was due entirely to that fat tip slowing the arrow down. Since switching to the Thunderheads, I've had no problems.

Just checking as most people don't even think to sharpen the tip.
Thunderheads tips I believe are sharp(maybe not as sharp as they could be) out of the box.
Good Luck this year. Are you in an area with a good Buck population or did you draw a doe tag as well?

I have four doe tags at present. I may buy a few more as I live in a special regulations county where the doe tags are pretty much unlimited. I also live in an area with some monster bucks [Eek!] - I just won't say exactly where that area is. [Big Grin]

How about you?

I at this time only have access to public land.
We are allowed 2 deer with 1 being antlered or antlerless and the other anterless. with the option depending on area for 2 more does.
I am doing some scouting for a group from Maryland tommorow at a state park and they will give me a report when they leave as to what and where they saw. I am trying to get permission closer to home so I can hunt after work but it is tough [Frown]

Ohio is tough! It's practically illegal for the average guy to go hunting.

Not really. There is quite a bit of State and National land that is all open access. There are a lot of land owners that allow hunting to friends but as I live near one of the largest cities the land owners close get bombarded with requests and most have been abused by tresspassers and very dis-courtious "hunters"(if you want to call them that [Smile] )
As a bow hunter it is a little easier but still tough.
There are 4 state parks af over 5000 acres within 1 hour drive. but still 1 hour is 1 hour!

The park I am hunting/scouting this weekend is about 2 hours away but in the southeastrn portion so should have some nice deer.
The park I was in 2 weeks ago, when talking to the ranger, he said if pretty much quiet during bow season but gets hit hard during shotgun season.

How about you, private land or public?

Both, but private land mostly. I'm constantly looking for spots and doing my homework. It pays to know who owns what and to visit your county courthouse. Keep a notebook and be aggressive. There is huntable land right under peoples' noses that they never even consider hunting. It sure beats hunting shoulder to shoulder on public land. Many timber and energy companies will allow hunting on their lands as do many townships and parks. Developers are also another source for access to little hot spots. Bowhunters have a huge advantage when it comes to scoring access in competitive areas. Wear a smile and be polite. If I can manage to do that, anyone can. [Big Grin]

A few comments from boman... [Big Grin]

If the tip of a Thunderhead isn't sharp right out of the box I must not know what sharp is. I do resharpen them when they get dull as they will from practice. I resharped the blades also.

I still have 7 or 8 thunderheads but I'm outfitting my 2 boys and looking around at other options. Why, when thunderheads work so well?

I've had a problem with thunderheads bending at the ferrule just above where it screws into the insert. Sometimes the shot is so steep that the fletchings are still in the deer when the head goes into the dirt. The deer spinning around bends the broadhead making it useless for reuse. I saw the slicktricks test results and saw how accurate they were and I believe they may be more durable too so I thought I'd check em out in that regard.

I think any sharp accurate head will kill a deer but beyond that, how many deer will it kill and still function accurately? The price comes down quickly if the slick tricks will kill more deer per head although I realise shot choice is a factor in head strength. I've had some thunderheads kill over 10 deer before I bent em.

The slicktricks look tuff to me.

>>>--------------------->

Hunting land in Ohio is very abundant, public and private from what I've seen. Anyone having problems just let me know. I have permission on more really good land to hunt than could be hunted in a lifetime. It's one of the most hunter friendly states I have ever visited, at least the southeastern quarter of the state.

I hope to be there again for a week or two come Halloween. [Wink]

Amos,

I see what you mean and I guess I'll have to wait for them to get here and see. I'm shooting carbon arrows so I hope they fit nicely. I'll check them with aluminum also and let you know the deal. [Smile]
