How to clean a Capybara?
For those of you who live in South America: How do you clean a Capybara? I've been wondering this because they are not shaped like many other animals.

A capybara called in Argentina Carpincho is cleaned as any other game, but you must be very careful not to leave any fat in the skin, it will spoil it. The skin looks like a hog’s skin, and it is very much looked after for elaborating boots, shoes, wallets, belts, etc. actually most overseas visitor take some craft work made with capybara leather.

Thank you for the info. I was more asking what method you use for skinning a Capybara. Here in Texas, we hang deer and hogs by their back legs from a spreader bar (which spreads the legs open). Then we start skinning at the back legs and come down. Then, after the animal is completely skinned and the head cut off, we open the animal and get the guts out by splitting the diaphram. Is this how you skin and clean Capybaras or do you have some other method?

"How do you clean a Capybara?" You cut it open, and take out everything you don't want to eat.... Sorry, I just couldn't resist....

When I have to clean a capybara I just give him a small bar of soap and similar size wash cloth and make sure he scrubs behind his ears as well. Wink
