Starting to get really excited. Weather.com has lots of sun and weather in the 70's for Santa Rosa. Rifle is ready, gear is ready and I am ready! Smiler

Do I need bug spray? Is it shorts weather in BA?

Thanks,
Ski

Ohh Yes You will need Off (Long lasting...The green one, available here in all stores)The mosquitos are still bothering in Santa Rosa during the morning until happens the first frost.
BsAs maybe will be mostly fresh after sunset.Long jeans trousers and a Polar jacket will be ok.
We started the Autunm season (15 to 22 Cº). Good Luck!!!. Guille

What Guillermo said. Also, no sandals please or Hawaian shirts in B.A., blend with the environment for safety reasons. If you are hunting hogs in the nights at La Pampa, bring some warm clothes, gloves and boots. April may be treacherous and you´d be frozen before knowing it.

Ha!
Thanks guys. I'm sure you have a mental picture of some fat car salesman from the midwest wearing a red Hawaian shirt, cargo shorts, white socks and sneakers, floppy hat and camera on a cord. Smiler

Hi Ski.
I just got back from the estancia, that has a border with poitahue.I was just east of poitahue.
Had a great time!In 15 days, I shot 3 stags and 9 pigs. Beautiful place! Hope you are not too late for the rut. It was very quiet during the last few days.
Be aware of poachers! One evening we "walked into" 4 poachers, all armed with rifles. Another day we saw 2 of them. My guide shot at them with my 8mm Mag, but missed!
My outfitter told me that poitahue is even more attractive for poachers because their rutting places are closer to a main road, from where they get into their estancia.

Roger, sorry, but I'm sure your guide missed on purpouse...nobody down here shoots to kill someone because it's poaching, and less infront of a foreign client !!!

Don't be surprised if all of them where friends..even the guide.. Roll Eyes

If they are not friends your guide will appear sooner or later with a bullet hole in his head. If this not happen soon is because inded they were friends and were acting for you, for the farm owner or for the outfitter, who knows.

Or, the worst, if he really shoot at them with you there you indeed where hunting with a real lunatic and he put your life in REAL danger.

Also is interesting that you saw 6 poachers !!!
With whom you where hunting with ? that number is too high, it seems they were not doing any anti poaching control on that farm. I have not seen a single poacher in all the farms I have been hunting during the last years.

Anyway, doesn't matter, please post some pictures of your deers and pigs !! tu2

I am pretty sure if any guide shot at any human being intending to hit him, his days would be numbered. I would not be coming back to hunt with that party.

I know of a few cases of landowners shooting in front or behind poachers, to shoo them off. Perhaps a stranded dog never returned...but no human beings shot due to poaching. There were some abuses of course, because if you are walking trough an unknown field and you hear a near bullet whispering in all probability the quarrel should end with the fists (or a knife, remember always that our gauchos are first and foremost knifemen). I know one or two of such tales also. Big Grin

Hi Guys,

In my opinion nobody on earth will take a shot on poachers.

1st. because he will face jail for sure if he achieves a good success rate !! Wink

2nd. because poachers have some codes that we all know down here in La Pampa.. if you start fighting them hard, they will surely light some fires in your woody areas and your business is gone for some years.

I have some stories of land owners regretting several big firestorms at their ranches with no natures reasons ( lightning ) but human origin...

Based on this, its strange to see some local shooting bullets on them ... but who knows... maybe he was doing it and if so, he need to know that type of actions are not recommended by any reason even so its an non killer shot.

A reasonable hunting ranch would try to follow the poacher while contacting base for a police call.

Hey,

Just back last night. Full hunt report to follow. Our group had a blast. Smiler Lots of game and beers.

Never saw a guide carry a rifle, never heard a shot from anyone other than our group. Never saw a poacher or evidence of a poacher.

Casino in Santa Rosa is top notch. Poitahue is first class and I missed Black's in BA! Sinoritas aren't as good as advertised but still very nice.
