Normally this forum is for cooking game, but I am in need of instructions and formulae for really good beer made at home. Last night I was given a glass of "home made" and was overcome with the quality of my quaff. Just really outstanding.
Any of you brewers of repute have hints for a novice?

AvatarJust go along to your local brewers supply and get yourself a good quality beer kit for a draught, ale or pilsner style beer, a couple of pounds of glucose or dried light malt extract and a 7-8 gallon fermenting container with an airlock and a tap.
(The kit wil contain the already hopped(bittered) liquid malt extract and a packet of a proprietry dry yeast).
Take it all home and then follow the instuctions printed on the beer kit.
As said above, sanitation is important, but if you've ever preserved fruit or made jam before you will already have a good idea of what you need to do.
It's very easy, inexpensive and rewarding hobby to get into and in all likleyhood you will produce a beer as good as or better than you can buy at the bottleshop at 5x the price and there are also endless opportunities for experimentation with different styles etc.
