Duckhunter3920820 ga slug accuracy
About 2 1/2 years ago I posted a question about slug gun accuracy and got some encouraging data from several members. I finally got aroung to outfitting my H&R with a 20ga rifled slug barrel and I tried it out today. I am amazed. I tried the Winchester and Remington 260gr. slug and the Federal 5/8 oz. I settled on the 3" Remington 260 gr. AccuTip. With this load, I put the sighter 4 inches low and 1 1/2" right. After I made the sight adjustments, the next four went into a 2" square centered on the 1" dot. I have never believed that slug guns were capable of this kind of accuracy. Finally, change I can believe in.

44magLeoI have an older Remington 870 20 ga. 28 inch smooth bore that at 50 yds put three shots touching at point of aim, with just the bead front sight. I like the Federal 2 3/4 3/4 oz Truball slugs.
I have thought about a rifled barrel but the cost of the barrel and the slugs is just more than I can justify.
I have used 12 gauges that can't keep three shots on a paper plate at that range.
I have shot many 20's that will shoot as well or better than this 870.

Bernie P.Rifled slug barrels are a HUGE improvement over smooth bores. My old Mberg 500 smooth bore/open sights shot decent out to about 75yds but my Mberg 835 with rifled barrel/red dot can double that distance. With the turkey barrel/chokes it's really all I need to hunt anything and everything in NY.I'd never go that way but it's nice to know I can just the same.
