Strut10Fourth thread, new forum
Dang!!!
You're all making me wish I hadn't grown out of that stage of my life (grew out of it 4 times, actually).
Here's the last one I had. Built it to be the ultimate street sleeper. Had to sell it and give the $$ to a woman I couldn't stand.
'67 Impala Spt Cpe.
396 +.030"
12.50:1 forged slugs
.598"/296 deg. .598"/298 deg. soid cam
TH400 w/9" converter
4.56:1 posi 12-bolt rear
Looked all stock like Grandma's. Ran like a raped ape. Best e.t. was 12.80 @ 109mph on a set of G-60 soft compound bias D.O.T. tires. Still was getting +/- 75 feet of posi wheelspin @ 15 psi. Any less and the rims spun.
Sometimes I miss it........like when some kid in a newer 'Vette, Mustang or Camaro pulls up along side my Grand Cherokee at a red light and I just have to smile and wave.

Didn't the big block
Turbo-Jet crossed flag fender badge defeat the purpose of being the ultimate sleeper?

In that case he should have painted really big number
396 cu in on the hood like the '60's NASCAR stockcars.
If there would have been a Turbo-Thrift inline 6 badge, that would have been the way to go to make it a sleeper. At least that's what my peers did way back when.

Yes...........but no.
Unless she was running, the only suspicion the trained eye would have that it was not Grandma's 325 horse nine-six was the 2 1/2" tailpipes. In reality, it was 587 HP at the rear wheels. So, I could have put the 6-banger "no-number" flags on it. But nobody would be fooled if the car was fired up.
My brother, incidentally, has a '69 Impala Sport Coupe 427, 4-speed. It used to wear 350 badges.
