Does anyone have any experience with these? They are sold by Blue Grouse. It's a damned simple method of manufacture and they look like a fun little gun.

I bought one from Bruce a couple of years ago and like it. Mine will fire accidentally if you bump the trigger guard, but I don't bring it to full cock until ready to fire, so no big deal there.

Is there a "half cock" where there is no possibility of accidental fire? How's the accuracy, and what projectile do you favour?

I've got the long barreled 32" .36 caliber that I use for squirrel hunting. It's quite accurate, enough for head shots on squirrels. Yes, there is a half cock notch, and you'd really have to break the trigger to get it to fire. Safe? Yes!! Accurate? Yes!! Damn fun? Definitely!!!

I'm under the impression that you can get interchangeable barrels- am I right on this? I couldn't find much about that on the site. Also if they are available what would you choose for rabbits etc, and what for big game.

Thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it. I've been looking at their site on and off for a year or more.

I have one of these that I barreled with a fast twist .45. It shoots 550 gr bullets and is an excellent hunting rifle. Not a bad target rifle. Their accuracy depends on the barrels that you put on them. I used a Badger barrel. Mine is screwed on. It is not a switch barrel version.

Bruce sells the H&A from Deer Creek that the breech plug is held in the action with set screws as well as a threaded action. With the threaded action, it's pretty much a one bbl proposition. With the Deer Creek one, bbl changes are as simple as can be. The .36 is what I have for small game, as 000 buck works and is cheaper than dirt. I had Bill Moody build a .72 bbl for elk (yeah, I know, pretty exteme) but I haven't gotten around to hunting elk yet, even though they frequent my back-yard.
They are an inexpensive accurate rifle, but the maple that they supply is very plain. For the money, it's a heck of a rifle.
Bruce at Blue Grouse is pretty helpful as well. He is sometimes slow at answering e-mail, but will talk to you on the phone.

Bruce and Deer Creek are different operations though the same action more or less. DC has serious quality control issues in my mind.

Stick with Bruce and his Blue Grouse.

My .36 is a Deer Creek, and I have no issues concerning quality control. Very well made in my opinion.

Glad you like it. I have not had the same success with one rifle/two barrels.
