<Oscar>New ml'er and son shoot first shots today
Used my Christmas money a couple of days ago to buy myself a new muzzleloader. I got a CVA inline. Was out this afternoon with my 16 year old son and we shot a few rounds. We both had a great time. First time for both of us to load and shoot one. We were both a little nervous for the first shot, but everything went great. We were using Hodgden 777. Clean up was no problem. By the third patch they were coming out clean. I believe I have found a new hobby.

Eric JulsrudReal blackpowder and a Flintlock!
Then you're talking fun!
I bought a CVA Youth .50 cal caplock for my son here 2 months ago. We are waiting for the weather to cooperate to do a good outing. (Not to mention he has to recite parts of the owner's manual to me yet)
You picked a great hobby with a lifetime of rewards. Welcome to the club! - Remember to keep it fun and safe; also mind the safety warnings and recommendations in your appropriate manuals. One of the fastest and less confusing ways to learn and suceed in this hobby is to seek out someone experienced BP enthusiasts near where you live to help you through the early learning curve. (Not to mention ideas and help is good!)

What no one has told you yet is that it is addictive. When you get that hankering to shoot flint give a holler. There aint nothing like taking game in the rain with a flinter.
