getting started
I need some help with black powder guns.
I am planning on getting a TC omega 50 cal. gun. I know nothing about black powder. What will I need and what are the best accessories?
The first thing you need, even before the rifle, is a good book. I have one by Sam Faddala, not sure on spelling. It will walk you through everything you need to know about shooting and cleaning. There is a lot of info on the web too. Why the Omega? I prefer the old style rifles shooting round balls. It adds a little more to the hunt, but to each his own. Try this site

<eldeguello>I agree you need a book, but to complicate matters, I'm gonna recommend an OLD one! Get Ned Roberts' book, THE MUZZLLOADING CAPLOCK RIFLE! It contains enough information that one could use it to become a muzzleloading target riflesmith, as well as all the little details one needs to know for any kind of BP shooting! It also demonstrates once again that there's nothing new under the sun!!
