marlinloverNeed a .610 to .618 round ball mold
Would like to buy from a .610 to .618 round ball mold for my smooth bore muzzle loader. Any size in there will work.
Thanks,
Pat

BrentPat,
Dixie Gun Works (google them), makes scissor moldes in 0.005" increments. I bought a .635" from them and could not believe how well it worked. Unbelievably cheap too - like $30 or so.
I'm told that sometimes they don't get it right so measure a few, but if you are like me, you will forget about buying a second custom mold.

Scota4570This guy is great, fair fast and nice moulds. Don't let the UK thing put you off. I have done business with him and gotten good feedback from others.

georgeldDixie's ad for these scissor mold claims they can bore them to the thousanth you want.
I just had one made for .715" to fit my .72 cal, total cost including shipping etc was $43.
Turns out real nice molds when the heats are right. Sprue is a little large, but a file does that trick just fine. Am not going to shoot many this size so I can file a dozen sprue's off and live with it.

BrentI nip the sprues off with a side cutter. I cut half way through, then rotate the ball 90 degrees and finish the job. The resulting tit is too small to bother with when loaded forward.
I've managed to win matches this way, so it works pretty well.

Allan DeGroota .610 round ball is a standard catalog item in the 2005 Lyman catalog.
P/N 2645610 catalong price of $64.50
fits standard single/double cavity mould handles.

georgeldAlan:
Compare your $63, to Dixie's $43 delivered price IF price matters.
This one turns out nice smooth ROUND balls.
Snipping the sprue does leave a larger nip than I like, that's why I hit them with a file.
Something as big as 12ga balls won't be fired too many times so a few minutes extra work don't matter that much.
Good shootin,

Allan DeGrootI've never used one of Dixie's moulds.
I have never had any major problems with a Lyman
(or older Ideal) mould block in getting it to cast.
OTOH I've had a few Lee moulds that I had issues with
and I've not had an RCBS Die that I could get good bullets out of yet...
Knowing somnething exsists is half the battle, it's likely that someone would have that mould at a lower price because Lyman catalog prices aren't "set in stone"

UnderclockedFMReloading.com for that Lyman.
I have a lopsided Lyman conical mould. Didn't care for their customer service. Most of their mould are okay though. But you'll have to have appropriate handles and add that to the cost.
WHUT?

jjmitchellContact Dixie Gun Works, Track of the Wolf, or Log Cabin Shops as to Rapine molds. They make bag molds and bigger molds to your sixe for $50 or so. Their bag molds are period correct and have the sprue cutter on them.
